Read this

If you missed the link in the comments section on a previous post, here are two good pieces by Jennifer Crusie about how to find an agent that's right for you. I don't agree with everything she says (I don't agree you "hire" an agent for example) but she's right on the money about most things.

Here are the links:
It's all about you

Wow....that's like an analysis of your whole life. It could take a year to figure all that out.

And the description of what an agent should be like.....We know Miss Snark must be at the very least, that good and the epitome of that post! No wonder you needed a vacation! Sounds to me like you deserve a few more!

She certainly gives much food for thought, espcially to those of us who are tempted to carpet bomb agencies in hopes of finding one who will say, "This is really good - I love it!"

And, as we are finding out from the comments, sometimes that 'one' might not be the right one.

Good post.

My new favorite! Not only were you linked by Wendy McClure, but the first post I read mentions Jennifer Crusie. As someone on the retail end of the business, I can't wait to dig into your archives.

Provided me with a perfect rationalization for my dithering in seeking an agent.

I'm still working on having an acceptable synopsis. I'll look for an agent when I feel 'more done'! But I printed it both of Jennifer's posts, for a refresher course. Ric is right about what he got out of the article, be selective or be sorry! I agree! :-)

Thank you once more for an interesting and informative post. While Miss Snark and I would be a match made in hell (I write epic fantasy. That should be enough <EG> ) I hope that by following her advice I will be more of an asset and less of a burden to my agent when I find him/her.
