Thank you Miss Abacus

A word of thanks to Amy, our very own Miss Abacus for the idea of the random numbers and generating them for the Crapometer.

It made the selection process much more fair across all the time zones to have random numbers. It was a great idea, and executed with swift elegance. Can't ask for much more than that now can you?

Three (randomly selected) cheers!

Yes, yes. I was one of the 300+ who did not get chosen and though I was disappointed, not for one milisecond did I feel 'cheated' or somehow wronged. The process was perfectly fair and very clear. Can't hope for anything more. Thanks to Miss Abacus and to Miss Snark for the time, the effort and the well thought out structure that made the process fair and clear. Cheers to you both.

I would cheer harder except I wasn't picked. Oh, well, I'll just dust myself off and keep on truckin'.
Kudos, Amy!

I think the crapometer went well - although I can't help feeling sorry for those whose query letters and first page went totally unread. I think another option might be for a First Reader to select 20 or 30 of the absolute best ("I'd ask for a partial") and the absolute worst (wtf) and then . . on second thought, forget it. That wouldn't work. What am I thinking!

I am over my sour grapes at not having been selected and can now say that Miss Abacus was fair and just. I learned quite a bit just reading and critiquing (is that spelled right???) the other letters, so it was worthwhile all the same. Maybe next time, the gods of the abacus will see fit to put my head (or letter, as the case may be) on the chopping block...

hopefully there will BE a next time :)

And even if there isn't, I have to say that I have a whole new respect for agents (even the ones who've shot me down - boo hiss) and what they have to wade through to find one saleable work.

Hurrah, Miss Abacus! I too lost the Dice Roll o' Doom, but heck: most of us did. Thanks all the same! You were the only thing keeping Miss Snark's hair from being set aflame. :)

I think that it was as fair as it could possibly be (another loser here). Great idea; smoothly executed.

Some of these snarklings are darn clever folk. Thanks Amy!

An excellent idea and the fairest way to go about it. Hurrah! And one has to admire Miss Snark for gritting her teeth and accepting her numeric fate, and not at any point asking for a backup draw.

Too bad she picked the wrong numbers! Mine wasn't included! LOL.

Seriously, very fair though. How did you previously choose?
